Further research: Annie Leibovitz

Annie Leibovitz is an American photographer. She is best know of her portraits or political figures , athletes , musical. A photogram that can amazingly capture and reflect the feelings of the photographed person. She is excellent at using light and giving it direction in her photos. That's why I became interested in her work in connection with my project "Helpless Guardian". Leibovitz she start working in 1970 as Rolling Stone magazine as photographer. Her photos are known all over the world and the themes and colors are very wide, from portraits to photos of fantasy. She started taking photos with a Minolta SRT-101 camera, then switched to the more innovative Nikon F with first 35mm SLR system.  Annie reportedly shot most of her work with the RZ67 till her transition into digital by the early 2000s.(Soriano 2022).  Leibovitz tries to use natural light as much as she can. It uses ambient light and additionally adds another smaller light to the object, usually in the direction the natural light source is coming from.

Below in this photo you can see the face of a little girl, the model who in this photo seems to be devoid of emotions, which only adds credibility and a feeling of sadness in this photo. She also added more shadow around the model, so the entire photo focuses on her. It also allows the model's faces to look like they have sharper edges. Another way the photo contrasts is that it is in colour, which makes it look a bit mysteriously because the light is only shining on one side of the blue background (Ngozi Igbedioh, 2023). Her moving hair and light from left side give more expression and live in that picture like capture a moment. dirty cheeks and eyes force the viewer to deeply reflect on what happened to this child, and this is what I want to achieve in my project photographs, to arouse questions and  develop a curiosity through facial expressions. The shades of gray, blue and black behind the model make one wonder if there is something or someone there, keeping the subject of the photo very mysterious and terrifying. Also model eyes telling us that the person presented is an innocent child. That is exactly  what I looking for my pictures to using a natural light in my photography

Second photography I was choose in view on the background. Object is in all most in the centre and behind him start creating a interesting things. The photo is divided into three divisions. By placing the person in front or at the intersection of the dividing line, we get a better photo, as in this case. Objects behind the person are is important, but the major model from the front captures the observer's entire attention, the light behind falls from the right-middle side but giving a shining effect on the face and bottoms of coat from her left side probably to light was using in that photography, one natural behind and another one from left front. We can still observation dark small lake behind the the attention model and some light on the edges of the tree. That's what I'm going to be looking for in my photos, so that my model is in the center of attention and only in the background will the less important things happen. I will be using a natural light witch one will be reflecting on my model in appropriate direction and interesting background like in that picture below. Inspired me work real artist photographer with one have a large number of opportunities and ideas for great photography.  During that session with Queen Elizabeth Leibovitz she was very nervous. In an interview conducted hours after the news of the queen’s death, Leibovitz spoke to me warmly about that 2007 shoot, though admitted to being nervous (“I’m nervous on every shoot,” she said) and also recalled the second sitting years later at Windsor Castle, in honor of the queen’s 90th birthday, where her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and corgis were all present. Both sessions yielded historic images, which are assembled here. “They were epic adventures for sure,”(Nast Conde 2022).

“I no longer believe that there is such a thing as objectivity. Everyone has a point of view. Some people call it style, but what we’re really talking about is the guts of a photograph. When you trust your point of view, that’s when you start taking pictures.”(Annie Leibovits)

  1. Good that you have discussed the images and related them to your work with some good referencing. I do think you need to learn how to use photographic and compositional terms a little better discussing the rule of thirds particularly in the image of the queen, the lighting will have been enhanced with studio lights and there is post production here
